The Chakras - Solar Plexus

We take a look into the Solar Plexus Chakra or ‘Manipura’, understanding the impacts of this Chakra being too open or closed, and how we can find balance.

Let’s take a moment of reflection. Do you find yourself quick to anger? Do you sometimes feel shy and powerless? Maybe you feel a little stuck or stagnant in your life? These are all signs that your centre of power, your Solar Plexus Chakra might be blocked.

Manipura, or our Solar Plexus Charka, is our third Chakra (starting from the root) and is located just above the belly button. As such, it physiologically corresponds to our digestive system and metabolism.

On a more emotional and spiritual level, Manipura corresponds with some amazing qualities such as confidence (with humility) self-assurance, clarity and wisdom.

“The solar plexus chakra is your centre of power and vitality.”

So we all want a healthy digestive system, self-confidence and clarity on our direction, right? If you think your Solar Plexus Chakra is out of whack, there are some simple things you can do to try and balance it.

The colour associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra is yellow. You could try wearing yellow and eating more natural yellow foods such as bananas, squash, corn or yellow capsicums and peppers.

When meditating, you might like to visualise the colour yellow, or maybe the sun, as the element associated with Manipura is fire. Visualise the warmth and power of the sun moving over every cell in your body. You might also like to meditate on the associated sound, RAM. You could say this out loud or repeat it in your head.

There are also great meditation soundtracks available online for the Chakras - you can search Solar Plexus meditation on YouTube and find plenty of options.

If you’re into it, you could also use crystals such as Citrine, Yellow Calcite or Lemon Quartz.

Finally (and our favourite), you can practice yoga with ‘asanas’ or poses to specifically target Manipura. There are many beautiful side bends that speak to your Solar Plexus Chakra, such as Bananasana, Child’s Pose (Balasana) with your arms to one side, triangle (Trikkonasana) and side angle (Utthita Parsvakonasana).
